The Ultimate Book Challenge is a competitive book club that encourages the love of reading through the use of teamwork in a fun and unique format.
- Students in grades 3-5 can participate. Meetings will be scheduled by Homeroom Teachers.
- Students will compete in teams of up to 6 members to share their knowledge and understanding of the selected UBC books.
- Students are encouraged to read as many books as they can from the reading list before the campus competition in December!
- Each campus will bring its winning team to the district competition, which will be held at Eaton High School on February 12, 2026 at 6:00 P.M.
- More details will be communicated after the PVE Campus Competition on December 5, 2025 in order to prepare over the Winter Break, into January and February, if your child is on the team moving to compete onto the district level.
Northwest ISD Elementary Library Media Specialists have carefully selected this year’s books to include a variety of genres, reading levels, and themes. All books on this list are available for check out through the school library, so there is no cost to participate

- The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza by Mac Barnett
- Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein
- I Survived the Galveston Hurricane by Lauren Tarshish

What is it?
The Ultimate Book Challenge is a reading competition designed to improve reading and comprehension while also building enthusiasm for reading. Students will compete individually and in teams to show their knowledge of the pre-selected books.
Who can compete?
Students in 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade are eligible for the competition.
